Chemical peelings

Treat all skin issues

Everything you need to know about chemical peels: how they work, what the results are, how to apply them and how to treat all skin problems.

What's a chemical peel ?

The chemical peel consists in exfoliating, thanks to an acidic substance, a more or less important layer of skin. Depending on the problem, impurities, imperfections, pigmentation spots, wrinkles and other signs of aging can be treated.

There are three types of chemical peels

There are three types of peels that penetrate the skin to different depths. Depending on the desired result, it will be necessary to go more or less deeply into the epidermis, even as far as the dermis. But only doctors and dermatologists can work on the dermis. Aesthetic professionals other than doctors can only work on the epidermis, the superficial part of the skin.

  • superficial peel

It is used to exfoliate the superficial layers of the skin. This type of peeling can be performed by beauticians. No side effects are to be feared except for slight redness and irritation that will disappear in the hours following the treatment, or the next day. The aesthetician must provide her own post-treatment recommendations, which must be respected.

  • Medium peel

A medium TCA peel reaches the superficial dermis to more effectively treat skin indications such as pigmentation spots, imperfections or wrinkles. A social eviction of one week is to be expected.

  • Deep peel

It is much more rarely used and is similar to a real medical operation. The consequences of the operation are heavy and social eviction is inevitable. This type of peel allows to reach deep wrinkles and sunken scars. Local or general anaesthesia is necessary, and the skin must be prepared between two weeks and one month in advance with the appropriate creams. This preparation is extremely important and delicate. It requires a follow-up by a professional, specialist in cosmetology 1. Following a deep chemical peel, there is significant swelling of the skin and bleeding. The skin must be bandaged and regularly covered with ointments for healing. The skin may remain pinkish for several months after the treatment, and the patient should then avoid sun exposure. This is a medical procedure, which can in no case be performed by a beautician.

For which skin problems should we turn to chemical peels?

A chemical peel can act on the following indications :

  • It can be a solution to treat imperfections
  • It can make scars disappear or fade away.
  • It can tighten pores, eliminate blackheads.

Depending on its depth of penetration and the acids used in the solution, the results will be more or less spectacular.

Results with a superficial peeling

The results and effects of a peel can last between 6 months and 1 year, with a good quality peel. Depending on the formulas used, the following can be observed:

  • Immediately more luminous skin, a glowy effect, a strong effect.
  • Smoother skin, dilated pores are tightened.
  • Wrinkles and fine lines are as if erased.
  • An attenuation of pigmentation spots.
  • A reduction of imperfections.

Going to a dermatologist or a beautician?

Estheticians do not have access to the same formulas as dermatologists, who are health professionals. The peels performed by a dermatologist are generally more concentrated in acids and therefore stronger. But more and more professional solutions allow beauticians to offer effective peelings to their customers, without side effects or social eviction.

Enhance the effects of peeling with microneedling or electroporation

In beauty centres, the effect of a peel can be optimised by using other techniques such as microneedling or electroporation. These techniques can be applied once the peel has been completed, and combined with solutions with a high dosage of active ingredients. Microneedling and electroporation will allow deep penetration of the active ingredients, up to 95% in the epidermis. At celestetic, the Multi-techniques treatment allows professionals to combine different highly effective techniques for the face, while adapting to the needs and budget of each client.

The conduct of a session
